Restaurant Chef

About the role

This full-time, management-level Restaurant Chef position is responsible for the overall success of daily kitchen operations. The chef personally performs culinary tasks while leading the staff and managing all food-related functions, improving guest and employee satisfaction while keeping the operating budget. The role supervises all kitchen areas, guides and develops staff, and ensures sanitation and food standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook foods regularly and for special guests or events, and create new menus and recipes
• Ensure compliance with food handling, sanitation, safety standards and applicable laws, and follow proper handling and temperatures
• Supervise kitchen shifts and day-to-day operations, estimate daily production needs and lead shifts while cooking
• Maintain purchasing, receiving, food storage and portion control standards, and maintain equipment
• Develop environmentally friendly processes for food preparation, energy use and waste management
• Lead and manage the culinary team, coach staff, help with hiring and take part in performance appraisals
• Schedule employees, track attendance, order uniforms and review staffing levels
• Manage guest service, handle complaints and provide ongoing training on menu items and guest expectations

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or a 2-year degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management or a related major
• 4 years of experience in culinary, food and beverage or a related field, or 2 years with a degree
