Protection Response Officer – Assisted Voluntary Return

About the role

The Protection Response Officer will support the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive safe, dignified assistance to return to their country of origin or legal status. The role operates under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and works closely with the Regional Thematic Specialist for Protection.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement protection‑related activities for voluntary returnees, including counselling, travel document acquisition, and medical or security escorts.
• Arrange and monitor travel logistics, departure, transit, and arrival assistance for beneficiaries in the United States and third countries.
• Maintain regular communication with the Chief of Mission and the Regional Thematic Specialist for Protection to ensure alignment with programme objectives.
• Document and report on protection interventions, case progress, and outcomes in accordance with IOM standards.
• Collaborate with governmental, intergovernmental, and non‑governmental partners to facilitate safe and orderly return processes.

Required profile

• Works under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and in close coordination with the Regional Thematic Specialist for Protection.
