Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

About the role

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) works with the QA team to evaluate and improve existing automation frameworks, write and design automation scripts from scratch and maintain automated tests so quality standards are met. The role grows and implements automated testing solutions to increase test coverage and shorten testing cycle time. It involves access to proprietary systems and sensitive information, which may be subject to confidentiality and information security requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Test Automation Architect to evaluate existing frameworks and build an end-to-end regression suite
• Develop, execute and maintain automation scripts to meet release deliverables and project testing requirements
• Minimise manual testing by identifying high-ROI test cases and automating them
• Act as part of an Agile engineering team, working with Software Engineers, Test Engineers and Product Managers throughout the development lifecycle
• Ensure each sprint's functionality is well tested, using automation wherever possible
• Develop smoke, functional, regression and integration test suites for GUI front-end, API services and database backend
• Document, maintain and monitor software problems, and recommend improvements to test plans and processes
• Maintain test result records and generate historical analysis, and mentor manual QA testers
• Follow automation best practices and coding standards, and take part in off-hours and weekend support during releases

Required profile

• Associate's degree or equivalent (nice to have, not required)
• Strong English reading comprehension and written communication
• 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C# or Python, and 2+ years in a QA department focused on test automation
• Experience in Agile environments, specifically Scrum or Kanban

Required skills

• Well versed in Object-Oriented Programming
• Hands-on experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cypress and similar open-source frameworks
• 2-3 years of experience automating UI and API tests
• SQL queries and database testing
• Mobile automation tools such as Appium, iOS native frame (XCUItest) and Android Espresso
• Integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines and using cloud technologies for scalable testing
• Robot and Page Object Model frameworks
