Public Affairs Specialist

About the role

This position supports the Church’s public affairs strategy by building and maintaining relationships with opinion leaders, media, and government officials. The specialist provides analysis, drafts communications, and helps manage the Church’s reputation worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Draft press releases, news articles, position papers, speeches, and training materials.
• Prepare responses to media inquiries and manage relationships with journalists, broadcasters, and online bloggers.
• Maintain and update the newsroom website and other new‑media channels.
• Conduct research and evaluate public‑relations initiatives before and after launch.
• Monitor social, political, and economic trends; produce strategic analysis reports.
• Create and edit brochures, press packets, video news releases, and public‑service programming.
• Assist in producing video and audiovisual presentations for special events such as conferences, temple open houses, and dedications.
• Support crisis‑management planning and execution.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, government relations, international relations, political science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five years of experience in public affairs, communications, media relations, or government relations; six or more years preferred.
• Strategic thinking ability and experience bringing diverse stakeholders together.
• Understanding of Church organization and priesthood governance.
• Strong interpersonal skills for representing the department with senior leaders and external partners.
