DR Academy Hitting Coach

About the role

The Boston Red Sox Player Development department is looking for a DR Academy Hitting Coach to work closely with the other hitting coaches, the Director of Hitting Development and other staff to implement and track player-specific offensive development plans. It is a hands-on, uniformed position supporting daily operations aimed at improving player performance, based out of the academy in the Dominican Republic.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Hitting Coach and Roving Hitting Instructor in creating and executing daily hitting practice plans.
• Coordinate daily schedules with the Hitting Coach to make efficient use of time.
• Help prepare and deliver educational material to position players.
• Operate hitting analysis tools such as Blast Motion, HitTrax and internal software.
• Support the hitting portion of Player Performance Meetings, tracking and reporting on hitters' goal progress.
• Maintain communication with the Hitting Development team to streamline transitions for players promoted or demoted.

Required profile

• Organized, detail-oriented, curious and data-driven.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, working closely with players, coaches and other departments.
• Able to evaluate and prescribe best-in-class drills to address each player's deficiencies.
• Able to develop programming toward organizationally defined KPIs and to build trust and player buy-in.

Required skills

• Use of hitting analysis tools such as Blast Motion and HitTrax.
• Ability to turn large amounts of data into actionable takeaways for each player.
• Willingness to use technology to maximize the effectiveness of player programming.
