Automation Engineer

About the role

The Automation Engineer will support ConvaTec’s global manufacturing network by providing technical expertise, leading equipment projects and driving continuous improvement across all production sites. The role combines design of new tooling, troubleshooting of existing machinery, and coordination of project delivery to meet the Annual Operating Plan and new product launches.

Key responsibilities

• Design, modify and construct tooling, machine parts and fixtures using CNC equipment and create associated CAD drawings.
• Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis on manufacturing equipment while ensuring compliance with site and regulatory policies.
• Manage contractors and suppliers to improve service levels, reduce costs and increase equipment reliability.
• Support equipment commissioning, perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for new or upgraded systems.
• Prepare and approve project documentation, change requests and process validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ).
• Transfer R&D technologies into production processes and oversee overhauls, rebuilds and upgrades of legacy equipment.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams on new product development, new process development and new product launches.

Required profile

• Strong background in manufacturing automation and tooling design.
• Proven experience with CNC machining and CAD drawing creation.
• Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary projects and manage external vendors.
• Solid understanding of equipment commissioning, FAT/SAT procedures and process validation.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to regulatory compliance.
