Associate Technical Lead - Backend & AI

About the role

BOT VFX, a post-production services company in the entertainment industry with global clients, is looking for a developer with 5+ years of experience to design, develop and maintain scalable software solutions. The role leads development tasks, writes clean code, mentors juniors and collaborates across teams in an Agile environment, with a strong focus on using AI to improve efficiency and quality. It reports to the Senior Architect and has a dotted-line relationship with the Product Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design and architecture of backend services, data models and integrations, and lead code reviews, design reviews and performance optimisation.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise the team's technical capability.
• Design RESTful APIs with Node.js and TypeScript (NestJS) and build data sync pipelines using CDC and event-driven patterns.
• Build spreadsheet-based integrations (e.g. Google Sheets API) and manage database migrations across environments.
• Implement background job processing with message queues such as RabbitMQ or Redis, and tune PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Build RAG-based AI agents and MCP-based tools that give AI assistants access to production data.
• Write clean, tested code, monitor and debug issues, and ensure security and data privacy compliance.
• Work with product managers, developers, pipeline teams, DevOps and business stakeholders, and document architecture and data flows.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend development, including at least 1-2 years in a lead or senior role.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and mentoring skills.
• Willingness to learn, switch between technologies and work on multiple projects at once.

Required skills

• Node.js and TypeScript with NestJS; PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• CDC, ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehousing concepts.
• RabbitMQ, Redis and event-driven architectures.
• Google Workspace APIs (Sheets, Drive).
• Git and version control.
• Preferred: RAG, MCP, LangChain/LlamaIndex, React, Debezium/Kafka, Docker, CI/CD, Prometheus/Grafana/ELK, AWS/GCP/Azure, Jest, and exposure to VFX pipelines.
