Design Systems Engineer (Remote, Santiago de los Caballeros)

About the role

Blacksmith Agency builds websites and marketing programs for clients across the US. As Design Systems Engineer, you own how client design systems are built: taking a brand and a few reference sites and turning them into a working system of tokens, variables, modes and core components that a build pipeline can run without help. This is a senior, systems-first position focused on building new systems quickly and correctly across several client brands.

Key responsibilities

• Build token architecture in Figma using variables, modes and semantic naming that the pipeline can read predictably
• Ship core component libraries that hold up across an entire site, not just a homepage
• Document the system so a developer or automated pipeline can execute it without questions
• Work across several client brands at once, each distinct but with the same structural rigor

Required profile

• 4+ years designing for the web, with real design system work in your portfolio
• Strong English and overlap with US business hours

Required skills

• Fluency in Figma variables, component properties, auto layout and variants
• Actual design system architecture, not just tidy files
• A portfolio showing consistent rigor across different client projects
