Senior HVAC Field Service Technician (CAT I, II & III)

About the role

The Service Technician III diagnoses, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including large and small rooftop units, split systems, chillers, VRV and some centrifugal chiller units. The role trains and mentors Level I and II technicians, handles advanced troubleshooting and supervises junior technicians, and may involve occasional overnight travel.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and replace HVAC equipment, components and wiring, including centrifugal and screw chillers up to several hundred tons
• Perform warranty service, test new equipment and educate customers on operation and maintenance schedules
• Provide parts and labour quotes, lead rebuilds and retrofit of CAT I, II and III units, and train Level I and II technicians
• Follow Daikin and customer safety policies and OSHA guidelines, including PPE and job-site hazard assessments
• Communicate service status to customers, share sales leads with the sales team and quote minor repairs directly
• Record billing, inventory, timecards, quality reports and other data, and analyse chiller and VRV trend data
• Participate in on-call rotation and may directly supervise Level I and II technicians

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with a certificate in HVAC
• 7 years or more of experience in HVAC service or a related industry
• Valid driver's licence with an acceptable driving record; EPA Universal Technician certification required where applicable
• Nice to have: mentoring experience, first aid/CPR card, OSHA 10 certification and EPA certification

Required skills

• Advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting and brazing
• Knowledge of network protocols (Modbus, BACnet, LonWorks) and VRF controls
• Commissioning of chillers, VRV and DX systems, and preventive and corrective maintenance
• Refrigeration cycle analysis, psychrometrics, electrical diagrams and basic electrical knowledge
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete online technical courses
