About the role

The Latin American Medical Coordinator leads daily medical operations at the New York Mets Dominican Republic Academy and coordinates care for players throughout Latin America. Reporting to the Minor League Medical Coordinator, the role blends direct clinical care, staff leadership, and medical operations to support player health and development.

Key responsibilities

  • Own daily medical operations at the academy, including treatment schedules, staff assignments, practice and game coverage, and follow‑up during camps, DSL season, and off‑season.
  • Provide hands‑on evaluation, injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation while maintaining visible daily involvement with players and staff.
  • Lead local case management for injured players, serve as primary medical contact for high‑priority cases, and coordinate complex, long‑term or post‑surgical cases with team physicians and MLB medical staff.
  • Develop and mentor Dominican Republic medical staff through clear responsibilities, regular feedback, case reviews, and professional development plans.
  • Collaborate daily with strength & conditioning, nutrition, sport science, mental skills, coaching, and academy leadership to align player care and development plans.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with qualified physicians, hospitals, surgeons, and diagnostic centers in the Dominican Republic and across Latin America, and rehearse emergency action plans.
  • Coordinate player transitions between the Dominican Republic, U.S. affiliates, and other Latin American locations, ensuring continuity of care and proper documentation.
  • Ensure timely, accurate documentation of evaluations, treatments, and participation status in approved systems and review injury patterns to drive quality improvement.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training (BOC‑certified) or Physical Therapy with current certification.
  • Current professional credentials for the assigned practice locations, plus CPR and AED certification.
  • Five or more years of full‑time experience in professional baseball medical services.
  • Demonstrated staff leadership, mentorship, delegation, and interdisciplinary communication skills.
  • Strong clinical reasoning in injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and case management.
  • In‑depth knowledge of baseball injury management and return‑to‑play protocols, including throwing progressions.
