Knowledge Engineer – Build Ontologies & Semantic Layers (Remote)

About the role

As a Knowledge Engineer you will translate the tacit semantics held by BI and finance teams into a formal ontology and semantic layer that AI agents can reliably use. Working remotely, you will collaborate with data and AI engineers to extract undocumented meaning from stakeholders and encode it as structured, queryable knowledge.

Key responsibilities

• Design ontologies and taxonomies over enterprise data.
• Model semantic layers to enable natural‑language queries across data warehouses.
• Build knowledge graphs applying graph‑theory principles.
• Elicit undocumented semantics from BI and finance stakeholders.
• Support data lineage and stewardship practices.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers, AI engineers, and internal teams.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in knowledge engineering or ontology design.
• Strong proficiency with OWL (Web Ontology Language).
• Hands‑on experience using Protégé or WebProtégé for enterprise‑scale ontology design.
• Experience with RDF and SPARQL for semantic layer modeling.
• Background in knowledge‑graph modeling and applied graph theory.
• Familiarity with data lineage, stewardship practices, and OpenMetadata.
• Advanced English proficiency.
