FAO Representative

About the role

The FAO Representative leads the FAO Country Office in the Dominican Republic, overseeing the implementation of FAO’s strategic agenda to achieve food security, sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry. Reporting to the Assistant Director‑General/Regional Representative, the role coordinates closely with the UN Country Team and national authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Represent FAO to national authorities, partners, donors and stakeholders, advocating FAO policy positions and raising public awareness.
• Lead the development, operationalisation and monitoring of the Country Programme Framework (CPF) and Country Work Plan in line with the UNSDCF.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness, response and humanitarian actions in collaboration with the Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and UN clusters.
• Mobilise extrabudgetary resources, build partnerships with governments, NGOs, civil society and international organisations.
• Oversee programme implementation, technical back‑stopping, budgeting and reporting to ensure compliance with FAO corporate policies.
• Manage the country office, staff and financial resources, ensuring effective administration and risk mitigation.

Required profile

• Accountable for the FAO country programme, office, resources and staff.
• Reports to and works under the guidance of the Assistant Director‑General/Regional Representative and collaborates with the UN Country Team.
• Active member of the UNCT and Humanitarian Country Team, contributing to joint planning and resource mobilisation.
