Air Operations Assistant – UN Support Office (Temporary)

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) is seeking a temporary Air Operations Assistant to join its Air Terminal Unit in Santo Domingo. The role ensures safe and efficient air transportation for civilian and military personnel, equipment and goods supporting joint operations with the Gang Suppression Force and other partners.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out ramp operations, enforce safety zones and maintain ramp discipline around aircraft.
• Assist aircrew dispatch and coordinate with ground handling agents for cleaning, equipment, refuelling and transportation services.
• Monitor NOTAMs and other airfield notices, support refuelling coordination and enforce safety perimeters.
• Guide passengers during boarding and disembarkation in collaboration with MOVCON.
• Conduct visual checks of ground support equipment and implement FOD‑control campaigns.
• Maintain accurate records of ramp activities, aircraft dispatch and report incidents or near‑misses promptly.
• Coordinate flight departures/arrivals with the UNSOH Mission Air Operation Center in Port‑au‑Prince and liaise with civil aviation, airport authorities and military police for passes, escorts and hangar space.

Required profile

• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as operational needs dictate.
• Strong attention to safety procedures and hazard identification.
• Excellent coordination skills with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
