Infield Mentor Trainer - MTC

About the role

This position is central to the missionaries' role of inviting others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. Teacher Trainers are lead support-level individual contributors who ensure in-residence missionaries receive effective training by leading teachers, running individual and group trainings and coaching teacher performance. They assist in overseeing the work of 10-15 teachers and report to the manager of the Training Department.

Key responsibilities

• Train and provide ongoing evaluation and development of teachers and missionaries (75% of time)
• Provide individual coaching and continuing in-service training through weekly meetings, and give teachers materials and policy information
• Observe and evaluate teachers and missionaries, and facilitate their improvement
• Assist the Manager of Training in training new teachers before classroom experience and in recruiting and hiring
• Ensure teachers understand and teach the approved MTC curriculum, and help establish updates or new curriculum
• Fill in as a classroom teacher when needed
• Advocate for missionary well-being (10% of time), including evaluating their experience and performance and helping create an ideal learning environment
• Handle day-to-day supervisory matters, recommend teacher merit increases, and coordinate with other Lead Teachers (5% of time)
• Report missionary and teacher progress to the Manager of Training, and assist in training meetings and resource coordination
• Possible duties: assess proficiency of applicants, take on MTC teaching duties, and assist with the Mission Leadership Seminar

Required profile

• 6 months of experience as an MTC teacher
• Returned missionary with missionary service experience
• Fluent in a non-native language (except for English or ESL area assignments)
• Solid understanding of Preach My Gospel
• Preferred: 1 year of experience teaching, training or tutoring
