Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

The Buyer will manage all purchasing activities for Svitzer Caribbean Dominicana and its Caribbean Cluster entities. This includes supplier contact, purchase order processing, inventory repositioning, and logistics coordination to ensure cost‑effective and compliant procurement.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with purchasing department procedures and global procurement guidelines.
• Receive and process approved requests for goods and services through the ERP system.
• Identify, develop and qualify suppliers in line with internal policies and local legislation.
• Request quotations, analyse offers and select the best option to achieve cost efficiency.
• Prepare purchase orders, obtain approvals and track them to completion.
• Coordinate logistics and transportation to meet time and cost requirements.
• Liaise with the Accounting Department to maintain healthy supplier statements and resolve invoice issues.
• Update and send required reports to the supervisor.
• Support business activities ensuring safe, efficient and cost‑effective processes.
• Perform ad‑hoc tasks as needed.

Required profile

• University degree in Business Administration, International Business, Accounting or a related field (preferred).
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar purchasing role.
• Strong relationship‑building abilities and stakeholder management.
• Excellent organization, integrity and responsibility.
• Problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to improvements.
• High energy, sense of urgency and ability to prioritize.
• Fluent written and spoken Spanish.
• Intermediate written and spoken English (required).

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Experience with the SERTICA system.
• Use of ERP systems for purchase order processing.
