Public Affairs Specialist

About the role

The Public Affairs Specialist supports the Church by building strategic relationships with opinion leaders, media, government and community representatives. The role provides analysis, insights and communication that help protect and advance the Church’s reputation and mission.

Key responsibilities

• Draft press releases, news articles, position papers, speeches and training materials.
• Respond to media inquiries and prepare stories for worldwide distribution.
• Maintain the News Room website and manage new‑media outlets such as blogs.
• Research and evaluate public‑relations initiatives before and after launch.
• Monitor social, political and economic trends and produce strategic analysis reports.
• Assist in creating brochures, press packets, video news releases and public‑service programming.
• Support production of videos and audiovisual presentations.
• Develop training materials for priesthood leaders, public‑affairs directors and missionaries.
• Coordinate special events such as General Conference, temple open houses and centennial celebrations.
• Help design and implement crisis‑management plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, government relations, international relations, political science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience in public affairs, communications, media relations or government relations.
• Strategic thinking ability and skill in bringing people together.
• Understanding of Church organization and priesthood governance.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent tasks under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing, presentation graphics and database tools.
• Experience using Internet and new‑media platforms for communication.
