Co‑Op Lab Electronic Technician

About the role

Eaton is seeking a motivated student to join its IoT Development Lab as a Co‑Op Lab Electronic Technician. You will work side‑by‑side with engineers to build, test, and validate electronic prototypes and IoT solutions while gaining hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced innovation environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of IoT development and testing equipment, including sensors, controllers and communication modules.
• Assemble electronic prototypes, cables, harnesses and test fixtures using schematics and work instructions.
• Perform through‑hole and surface‑mount soldering, rework PCBs and inspect assemblies for quality.
• Execute functional testing, collect and document results, and troubleshoot hardware, power supplies, communication interfaces and sensors.
• Maintain a safe, organized lab, manage inventory of components and ensure test equipment is calibrated.
• Document build records, test reports and update engineering procedures as required.

Required profile

• Student in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics or a related engineering program with at least 150 credits approved.
• Minimum three months of hands‑on lab or university‑related experience.
• Intermediate written and oral English proficiency.
• Demonstrated learner mindset, passion for technology and accountability.

Required skills

• Electronic assembly and troubleshooting.
• PCB assembly and soldering (through‑hole and SMD).
• Operation of test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and power supplies.
• Basic circuit analysis and data documentation.
• Hardware prototyping and IoT device setup/testing.
• Microsoft Office, CAD tools, EDA tools and programming languages (Java, C, C#, C++, HTML, Python) plus database knowledge.
